Sustainability Challenge Photography Competition

The Sustainability Challenge Photography Competition 2023 is now open for entries

Enter our Sustainability Challenge Photography Competition to raise awareness of an issue that's important to you and be in with the chance to win up to £200 for yourself and a sustainability charity.

The competition is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate taught students at The University of Manchester. If you haven't already, take our Sustainability Challenge on Blackboard and get to grips with sustainability issues.

The deadline to submit entries is Friday, 24 February 2023.

Entry Requirements

How to enter

  1. Choose a topic - a sustainability issue that's important to you

  2. Take your photograph - use a phone, tablet, analogue camera, digital camera or anything else you can think of

  3. Edit your photo - if you want to, or you can just leave it as it is

  4. Write up 100 words & give your photo a title - describe the issue and any action you have taken to address it

  5. Fill out the image release form - this allows us to share your photo and use it in our marketing. Get the form here.

  6. Submit everything - send your photo and completed image release form to egc@manchester.ac.uk making sure to inlcude your student ID number, the title of your photo and your 100 words. Please also confirm in the email that the photo was taken by you, that you have obtained consent from anyone featured in the photograph to enter it into this competition and that there is no-one under the age of 18 featured in your photgraph. 

Rules

  • Entries must be submitted by midnight Friday, 24 February 2023.
  • You must be either an undergraduate or postgraduate taught student currently studying at The University of Manchester
  • Only one entry per person
  • Image entered must be the property of the person entering it in the competition
  • You must have informed consent from any people in photos
  • No photos of under 18s

Prizes

  • 1st place: £200
  • 2nd place £100
  • 3rd place: £50
  • Runners up: £25

Finalists will receive cash prizes. We will also make a donation of the same amount to a sustainability charity of your choice.

*Sustainability charity can be chosen from a list provided by the Ethical Grand Challenges Team* 

How to vote

Shortlisted photos will be put to an online vote after the submission deadline (date to be announced).

You will be able to cast your votes via Instagram and Facebook.

The winner will be announced at the Make a Difference Awards.
